| These business people are all compressing their spines and restricting their breathing but this is probably the last thing on their minds. |
One to one Alexander Technique lessons will help you rediscover your natural poise.
We work on preventing unnecessary tension, in activity and in rest. If, whenever you do anything, you tighten your neck and hold your breath like the people in the photo, we need to address this. The first step is for you to become aware of it.
The Alexander Technique isn’t a therapy but you can expect to feel a sense of improved well-being after each lesson, through changes in breathing and movement patterns and a better connection with your back.
Many people come to the Alexander Technique with back, neck and shoulder problems when nothing else has worked. Physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors often recommend Alexander lessons when they see that preventive education is needed.

We’re always doing something. But as we move around, sit, stand, communicate and use our hands, we don’t think about how we’re coordinating our bodies; it just feels normal, and right.
If in these everyday acts we’re compressing our spines, restricting our joints and hindering our breathing, we’re asking for trouble; squeezing the life out of ourselves.
When we become aware of this and start to apply the Alexander Technique, life gradually becomes easier. Freedom - of choice and of movement - is available, whatever our circumstances. Greater poise brings confidence. We have the means to take responsibility for our own health and well being.
